I have a Master’s degree in nutrition from Bastyr and a passion for distance running, which gives me a special perspective on training our clients. Before I came to CrossFit Seattle, I’d been running marathons, as well as 50- and 100-milers, for several years, but I had come to a point where I wasn’t making any progress. My solution? Run more miles. And more miles. And more miles. Yet I was still stuck.
I came for a training session with Scott, and it was eye-opening. My muscle groups were all out of whack. I couldn’t do a single pull-up. He put me through a CrossFit routine and I felt like I was terrible. He told me to do it again, faster. I thought there was no way, and yet I did it. Then he said do it again, even faster. It was something I never thought I could do, yet again I succeeded. I wouldn’t have done it if Scott hadn’t asked me to.
That was very powerful to me. I realized I got a better workout in ten minutes than I had gotten in years, running and lifting weights for hours. It was humbling and exciting at the same time. I was hooked.
Dramatic improvement
Now I’m a trainer here, and my background really complements what we have to offer. I am a registered dietitian, with experience in acute-care settings, and a certified nutritionist, with a specialty in helping active people make changes in their diet. I’m happy to answer clients’ questions at the gym, but I also offer nutritional consulting, through my business, Fit First.
I love being a teacher and a mentor here. With CrossFit training, I’ve had dramatic improvements in my running times, but it’s translated into other areas of my life, too. I now know I can always do more than I think. That’s a powerful thing.
