I became a personal trainer in 2006. I wanted to help people get the most out their workouts by avoiding the biggest pitfalls of exercise: injury, lack of motivation, boredom, and (worst of all) enduring hours of hard work without seeing results. I believe a personal trainer should be patient, supportive, knowledgeable, and focused on the client’s needs. It’s my goal to help clients look great, feel awesome, and unlock their potential.
As an athlete myself, for many years I was focused on the sport of adventure racing — a mix of trail running, orienteering, cycling and paddling. Adventure races are often team events, and they can go on for days. That means A LOT of training: long, slow distances, just about every day. It gets tedious. In the endurance community, you get caught up in a certain kind of thinking. The belief is, if you’re not training for an hour or more for each sport on a different day, you’re not doing enough.
But when I tried CrossFit, I thought –wow, this is different and it makes sense. It really rejuvenated my interest in training.
That’s when I came to CrossFit Seattle in 2008 looking for a coach. I found what I was looking for. It’s a great group of people to learn from.
CrossFit helped me think about training in a whole new way. I have really gotten away from the standard method of endurance training, and I’m faster and stronger and more resilient than I was before.
Working at a West Seattle personal training studio for the last few years, I’ve coached countless people one-on-one using CrossFit methods. Now I work here myself and I feed off this place’s energy every time I walk in the door. Everyone who’s in here really wants to be here, including me.
